I can finally spill the beans!

Helmar Adhesives, a manufacturer out of Australia, has just put together their first US design team and I’m so proud to share the list!

Yup, that’s my name on there!  I’m so excited!  As anyone who follows my blog will know, I tend to wander into some strange territory in terms of things I want attached to other things, so working with a company who makes such a great array of adhesives is SUCH a great fit for me!  I can’t wait to see what I can do with their products and definitely can’t wait to get to know the rest of my team better!  I’ve got their blogs all linked up above and the list has also been added to my sidebar on the right.  They are a super talented group of ladies and I’m honored to be included on this team!

Annnd, don’t miss the brand new Helmar US DT BLOG!!!  We will have giveaways, contests, guest designer announcements, project photo galleries, design team projects & articles and much more!

Shout Out Saturday

So is everyone enjoying their turkey sandwiches, turkey pot pie, turkey surprise, etc.?  Michael and I ended up going over to a friend of mine’s house and pretty much most of our little group was there so we had a wonderful time, but I have no leftovers, lol!  I skip the Black Friday sales every year so yesterday was a nice, quiet creative day for me.  And I have another quiet (lol, yes, Michael is at his dad’s today) creative day planned for today.  With maybe some laundry thrown into the mix.

So here are some of the things inspiring me at the moment from my week’s blog travels:

Yes, it’s back!  Tim Holtz is doing another round of “12 Tags of Christmas“!  Twleve days, twleve tags, many dozens of techniques shown in wonderful detail!  Do not miss it!

And my friend Roni is going to be sharing 25 days of altered/crafty gift ideas!  If you haven’t discovered Roni’s blog yet, shame on you!  Go now!

Speaking of gifts, I just LOVE this tin of magnets (and a gift card!) from the Hero Arts blog.  Definitely a cool gift idea!

My Spanish is more than just rusty so I don’t get to read this blog, just look at the pretty pictures, lol!  But how cool is that wine cork wreath!  And hello, recycled light bulb ornaments!  As I look around my house wondering when the last time any of my own bulbs got replaced and when one might burn out…

And, of course, Mel is coming through big time for the holiday gift giving help as well where she’ll be posting a new box template each day for a month!

Look!  The next installment in Camille McClelland’s Christmas village acrylic albums!  The Cookie Cafe – definitely sweet and charming!  Again – the elf doors totally crack me up – I LOVE her details!

Well, my dryer buzzer just went off so I’ll leave off here for now – enjoy the inspiration and go make something today!

Boxer Blue Necklace

Some more handmade beads!  I got a pack of the 6×6 Boxer papers from Basic Grey a while back and have found several of the designs are beautifully suited to making beads.  The first one will be going into the November/December special double issue of Scrapbook News + Review magazine, but this one I just put together tonight (I made the beads about a week ago) and honestly, I REALLY love how both of them came out!  For this one I tried finishing the beads using DecoArt’s varnish.  I’m happy with the finish (and just how fast it went), but I’m not as confident on the centers since they didn’t get coated.  I think I want to go back to using at least one dunk into Future Floor Finish then I can topcoat with other things (I’ve been experimenting a lot).  I really want to be able to get these beads finished faster than I can using the Future, but I have yet to find anything that gives such a durable finish.  Anyways.  On this necklace I put the handmade beads together with some snow quartz beads from Cousins and a few silver beads (they look gold in the pics but they are silver) from Fire Mountain Gems.  The clasp is from Blue Moon Beads.

Basic Grey Bittersweet

Have you seen this yet?  It won’t ship until next month, but I happened to be the first person to correctly guess the name on Kelly Goree’s blog so I’ve won a collection pack!  Doesn’t it look like a box of chocolates (with some yummy insides!)?  Ugh – getting hungry just looking at it, lol, and Thanksgiving dinner is still HOURS away…

So a big thanks to Kelly, who I’ve met a few times at CHA and the Pea events there and is THE sweetest person!  And to Basic Grey for knocking it out of the park yet again!  Now I’ve got to go email my not so local scrapbook store and beg them to humor me and bring in the 6×6, lol!  Because most of these 12×12’s will be decorating big items, but I totally think a few birdhouses and some jewelry are in order as well!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing you all a day full of family, love, and great food!  My holiday plans are rather up in the air at the moment.  My son was supposed to be going with his dad down to his grandparents’ house for the holiday but so far his dad’s car won’t start.  I am supposed to be spending the day and evening with some friends but am still waiting on what will happen, lol!  Sooooo…

I do want to share one picture of the thing I am most grateful for in the world!

Happy Thanksgiving from Michael and I!

My current favorite necklace

I made this a while back and have no idea why I haven’t ever photographed it.  It was on of those pieces that comes from getting dressed to go out and not having anything that matched what I was wearing…so I whipped it up, threw it on and off I went!  Now I find myself reaching for it.  With a black tee, with a dressier low cut sweater, it just kind of works with everything.  The donut beads are ceramic and I just really love the colors on them.  Moving my light gave me two totally different versions of what these beads look like so I went ahead and uploaded both pics.

Bluebell Bracelet

Another piece from the Wearables section of the October issue of Scrapbook News + Review.  Just a simple, fun little bracelet using Bo Bunny paper Mod Podged to small wood tiles.  Each tile got edged with Stickles then I used a Crop-A-Dile to get the holes for the jumprings.  I added some coordinating beads to the jumprings because I had to use such large jumprings it just looked empty until those little beads made everything come together!  The magnetic clasp made this much easier to put on/take off.

In answer to the question about where to find the tiles, I buy lots and lots of similar items.  Check in any craft store in the unfinished wood section.  They are usually bagged and hanging and come in various shapes, sizes, and mixes – all very inexpensive.  Please note that there will generally be some warped pieces in each bag so just check each piece before you use it and if you need a certain number, grab an extra bag just to be sure you have enough.

As for using Scrabble tiles, yes, you can make a bracelet with them, however I would probably change how you do it.  Since a Crop-A-Dile isn’t going to go through it, you’ll need to use a drill.  Because the tiles are smaller than these (but much thicker), I’d recommend going through from the side rather than the top and stringing them rather than having to use really huge jumprings.
